Turboprint 7.06 upgrade patch - OS3.5 compatibility &bugfixes
The archive tp706_e.lha
(200kB) contains a patch which fixes the following problems - for a complete
version history please read readme_tp706.txt
.
- Starting Turboprint under OS3.5 brings up the error "can't remove original
printer.device" or "printergfx.prefs not found".
- Deskjet-Utility alignment function doesn't work for HP Deskjet 890.
- Message "Printer not connected or off-line" appears too early
- The HP Deskjet 8xx driver prints black text using too much ink, especially
when printing from FinalWriter or Wordworth
- The HP Laserjet 3 driver won't load - Turboprefs says that the driver
is corrupt
Differences between V7.06 and V7.05: Installation under OS3.5 has been
updated.
Ghostscript 5.10 for Turboprint 7 A version of Ghostscript 5.10 for use
with Turboprint 7 is available on our

Updates
Printer drivers
A complete list of supported printers is available on the
printer driver page
.
Printers, that are not yet supported but can be used with existing drivers
- Canon BJC 2100: use Canon BJC 2000 driver
Problems during installation
- If the message "Can't compile script" appears, you are using an old
version of the installer software. This may happen if you use the "MCP" utility.
Please switch off MCP before you install TurboPrint.
- The message "Couldn't create file or drawer in line..." may occur if
there is a write protected file on your hard disk which can't be replaced.
In this case, please delete the Turboprint drawer before installing TurboPrint
as an update.
- Installation on a Draco computer: It is necessary to carry out
the "personalization" procedure on a regular Amiga, because the draco can't
write to Amiga floppy disks. You may e.g. install (and personalise) TurboPrint
on another Amiga first.
Problems when printing
- PicassoIV / Picasso96: If you use an older version of the Picasso96
driver software, you may have problems when printing from applications
(e.g. dark green background instead of white). Please get the current Picasso96
upgrade.
- Wrong print margins or additional form feeds: It is necessary
to set the margins in your application first. Pagestream, Final Writer and
Wordworth have settings for the unprintable margins of your printer. If
you own an HP DeskJet printer, you should additionally set the top text margin
to zero (in Turboprefs). Another solution is to use the application's postscript
driver in combination with Ghostscript (see the Turboprint manual).
- I have a HP deskjet printer. Can I clean the print head and align
the print cartridges?
- Yes, please use the "Deskjet-Utility" (drawer "Turboprint/Extra").
- I have an Epson Stylus Color printer. Can I clean the print head
and align the print cartridges?
- Yes, please use the "ESCUtil" software by Stephan Rusdorf, which is
included in Turboprint (drawer "TurboprintExtra") thanks to the kindly permission
of the author.
- I have a Canon BJC printer. Can I clean the print head and align
the print cartridges?
- Yes, please use the "BJC-Utility" (drawer "Turboprint/Extra").
Not supported printers
There are no drivers for the following printers, as we couldn't get developer
information:
- ALPS printers, e.g. MD 2010/2020/2300
- Canon BJC5000 (comparable printer that is supported by Turboprint:
Canon BJC6100)
- HP DeskJet 710, 720 und 820 - these are "Windows-only" and don't support
the HP PCL command set (comparable printer that is supported by Turboprint:
HP DeskJet 81x/83x)
- all Lexmark Color Jetprinters, z.B. 1100,3200,5000,5700,7000...
- "GDI laser printers" or "Windows laser printers" are not supported.
If you plan to buy a new laser printer, make sure that it is really compatible
with one of the Hewlett-Packard laser printers.
GraphicsPublisher
- GIF images: "interleaved" GIF pictures as they are common in
the WEB are not supported. Load and save them from a paint program like "PersonalPaint"
first.
- JPEG images: "progressive" JPEG pictures as they are common
in the WEB are not (yet) supported.
Setup-Utility
New versions are available for the following printers:
- The Deskjet-Utility now also supports HP Deskjet 890. The new version
is included in the latest upgrade patch
.
- A BJC-Utility for Canon BJC4xxx, 6000 and 7000 is included in the latest
upgrade patch
.
- The current ESCUtil has support for Stylus Color 440, 640, 740, 850,
900 and Stylus Photo 750, 1200. Available via
Aminet
.
Scanner cartridges, e.g. for Canon BJC printers:
Turboprint does not support optional scanner cartridges that
are available e.g. for Canon BJC printers. At this time a support for scanner
cartridges is not planned. Unfortunately, we don't know of any other Amiga
software that would support scanner cartridgres.
